Adopt a Chelsea Garden

Spring is here and that means the Chelsea Garden club's sidewalk gardens are in full bloom.

There are  still a number of these community gardening spots that have not been adopted by a Chelsea resident yet. if you're a Chelsea resident with a yen to garden contact the Chelsea Garden club to claim one of the still open spots

The work of the Chelsea Garden club is an incredible example of how members of the community will take responsibility to enhance their community when given the opportunity to. Park Chelsea sees the work of the members of the Chelsea Garden club as an example of how Park Chelsea's decentralized parks will be created and maintained.

Construction Update: Section 2 Will Open in June

Running between West 20th and West 30th Streets, Section 2 will double the size of the High Line when it opens in June. Construction crews are busy installing plants and building the elevators, stairs, and design features in preparation for the opening. When we are ready to announce the opening date, we will share it with you here. In the meantime, watch a new video to get a sneak peek.




We commend the team at the high line on the announcing of the opening of their second section.  The opening of their second section to the public will also mark the opening of a new section of Park Chelsea's centralized parks to the public.

Chelsea Improvement Company adds outdoor seating to Chelsea Market

The Chelsea Improvement Company bench is inspired by the constant movement and urban rhythms of New York City. It also relates to the new New York City stainless steel-and-glass bus shelters.

The three seats on each bench have generous proportions to accommodate a wide range of people, and make sure people aren't too close together when sitting, a common complaint about public seating.

The product was approved in early 2010 by the New York City Department of Transportation and the New York Public Design Commission and is now being considered as a possible standard bench for the entire city.
Update:Jan 2013:  The Chelsea bench has been approved and is now the Citybench. Over 1000 of these are being installed throughout NYC. Eight of these have now been installed throughout  Chelsea.  To see the locations click on this    link
