Recharge and Surf the Web for Free in Union Square

Recharge and Surf the Web for Free in Union Square

Manhattan's Digital District is being outfitted with new high-tech amenities to complement the surge of techies living and working in Union Square. First up is our snazzy new cell phone chargers which appeared a few weeks ago in the public plaza at 17th Street and Broadway and in the west side seating area of Union Square Park. The new chargers run on solar power and can hold a charge for several days, so there's no problem plugging in at night or on cloudy days. You’ll need the extra power because now more people than ever can connect to our complimentary Wi-Fi service that we’ve just relaunched after USP completed a substantial upgrade. After successfully outgrowing our original system, USP has spent the last several months installing a system with increased bandwidth, capable of handling 3,000 simultaneous users (up from 250) and expanding coverage along the pedestrian plazas.  We'd like to thank our partners at AT&T, Pensa, and Goal Zero for the solar cell chargers.  Special thanks to our neighborhood partners at the Beth Israel Medical Center who provide support for our Wi-Fi service.
